WordPress and WooCommerce: fixes, updates, care
The site works, but something needs changing, fixing or updating, and the person who built it does not reply. I work on what you have. Without rebuilding the site from scratch.
What I do on a site
Fixes
Content, layout, a new page, a form, the error that appeared after an update, a white screen, a form email that never arrives.
Updates
PHP, WordPress, plugins, theme. Always after a backup, on a staging copy first where the hosting allows it. How I do it safely.
Speed
Measured before and after. Images, caching, redundant plugins, database queries, hosting. No guesswork.
Security
Tidy accounts, two-factor authentication, backups, certificate, login attempt limits, removal of unused plugins.
WooCommerce shop
Products, variants, shipping, payments, customer emails, changes to the checkout, integration with the CRM or invoicing.
Forms into the CRM
Website enquiries land in Salesforce or another CRM as leads, assigned and with a notification. More on the integrations page.
Hosting and domain
A move to different hosting when the current one is the cause of problems. Certificate, DNS, email. Clarity on who pays for what.
Takeover after an agency
No access, no documentation, a site that “sort of works”. A separate service.
How it goes
You describe the problem
Form or email, in plain words. A link to the site and what you see. You do not need to know which plugin is to blame.
Access and backup
A separate admin account and access to the hosting. First thing: a verified backup of files and database.
Diagnosis and quote
I tell you what the cause is, how long the fix will take and whether anything else needs attention. A quote before the work.
Change on a copy, then on the site
Bigger changes and updates on a staging copy first. Published outside busy hours.
Checking together and a note
I show you what changed. I write it down in your documentation so the next person knows.
On what you have
The focus is existing sites and shops. Most of the problems companies bring me are not “a bad website” but a lack of care: two years without updates, plugins from three different developers, passwords with a former vendor. That gets put right in hours, not weeks.
I rarely suggest rebuilding a site, and only for a concrete reason: a theme with no support, code nobody can change safely, or a change in the business model. Then I say so plainly, with pros and cons, and the decision is yours.
Questions about WordPress
The site shows an error or a white screen. What should we do?
Write to me straight away, with the link. It is usually a plugin or theme after an update, a PHP limit or an expired certificate. Most outages like this I fix within hours of getting access.
Will you break something with an update?
That is why I take a backup and update a staging copy first. If something stops working, I roll back to how it was and look for the cause without rushing.
Do we have to change hosting?
No. I work on what you have. I suggest a move only when the hosting is the cause of the problems (no backups, old PHP, slow responses), and I show the measurement that says why.
We do not have the passwords to the site or the hosting.
I help recover them: domain registrar, hosting, site admin, email. The list and the order are in the article on taking over a site after an agency.
Do you build new sites and shops?
Mostly I look after existing ones. I build a new site or shop when it is to replace something that already works and the purpose is clear. Let us talk and I will tell you plainly whether it is one for me.
Your developer has vanished and the list of changes keeps growing? Tell me what needs doing.
I reply within one business day. The first call is free of obligation.
Describe what you need
No technical names needed. Tell me what does not work, or what you wish worked on its own. I reply within one business day.
